It is to my satisfaction and encouragement that I enjoy the proud privilege of my being the descendant of Joshi family of SHAHPURA (Distt. Bhilwara Rajasthan) to whom goes the SOLE credit of having initiated the art of phad painting as back as SIX hundred years. Thus the historical background of the art is traced to 600 years back which has exclusively been initiated by the said family settled at SHAHPURA and no where else in India.

It would really be very beneficial both for the researchers and the lover of phad painting to know that we have at ourdisposal a large collection of the paintings by our ancestors as most valuable relies 300 years old. The interested persons may most conveniently contact us on our address.

Art and its specialty :

              As regards the nature of this art it may be made said that among the various schools of art e.g. Ajanta Mugal, Kangra, Kishangarh, Bundi, Nathadwara, Rajput, etc. which have more or less qualities in common, PHAD PAINTING is some thing unique and appealing in its own way. How ? The depiction of the same in its totality and the colour scheme thereof enshrines a peculiar presentation of the painting pleasing to eyes like anything, which is further enriched and enhanced by the hard earned style of the artist coupled with the rhythmical beauty and grace of its movement, tempo and force.

Again for its themes of subject the phad painting panoramically presents folk tales, stories related to various godsand goddeses e.g. PABUJI, DEV NARAYAN, RAMDALA, (Related the Ramayan) and Krishna Dala (Related with Lord Krishna)

As regards the material used, khadi silk, Cotton cloth and canvas and Mercury based stone clolurs are used. The durability of the stone clolurs in guaranteed because these do not fade away for a long time. The paintings are shaped in all sizes : miniature / middle and large.

Promoting since its initiation :

             Besides, traditional mythological gods and goddeses, recently the same school of art has also proved a powerful means of depicting historical events like invasion of mahamud Gajnavi on Somnath Temple, Johar of Rani Padmini of Mewar the battle of Haldighati between Rana Pratap of Mewar and Raja Man Singh of Jaipur who was emperor Akbar's general and elopement of Sanyogita by Prithvi Raj. To further promote the art, the Gangor Sawari of erst while princely State of SHAHPURA and the so many other scenes have also been successfully tried and worked out winning substantial applause from all corners of the country.

Where it can be used :

             Our Phad Painting can be creditably displayed for interior decoration of residence. Govt. Offices, Secretariats Public Libraries, Town Halls, all Educational, institutions and above all Foreign Embassies, Museums and Five Star hotels. It is no mere assertion, rather the same have found continued entry in the afore said places.
